No fewer than three people are feared to have died following a cult clash between rival groups in Bodo, the headquarters of Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Our correspondent gathered that the fight started at about 2am between two rival groups said to be loyal to two politicians from the community.

The cause of the fight in which several people were severely injured could not be immediately ascertained.

A dependable source said that one of the two groups, which operated from outside the community, had stormed Bodo at midnight and kidnapped five persons.

'One of the kidnapped persons has been found dead in a well in Bote-Jogo, while the other two, a man a lady believed to be his friend, are yet to be found. The fear now is that they are not likely to be alive if as at about 3:00pm no report has come out on them," he said.

According to the source, there were sporadic shootings in the community throughout the night until early in the morning.

The incident was said to have paralysed all activities in the community.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Mrs. Ireju Barasua, confirmed the incident to our correspondent over the telephone.

She said that the crisis had already been brought under control.
