The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Adebayo, has directed all property developers in the state to report to the commandís Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for a crucial meeting next week.
The police boss gave the directive on Thursday during an on-the-spot assessment of the collapsed four storey building, in Ebute-Metta, where about 25 people lost their lives and over 50 seriously injured.
He said that the meeting with the property developers would centre on the need to use genuine materials for building construction, adding that "the names, offices and residential addresses and sureties of the house developers will be compiled so as to track them down or their sureties when there is such occurrences in the future."
Adebayo said the police had started investigations on the cause of the collapse of the Ebute-Metta building, adding that this would last for two weeks. He gave assurance that the public would be briefed about police findings.
On why the site of the collapsed building was cordoned off by the police, the commissioner said the action followed reports that rescue operations were being hampered by activities of street urchins popularly called area boys.
He revealed that the recovery exercise would be round the clock, adding that adequate security had been provided.
