Jigawa to export 50,000tonnes of sesame

Dutse - Jigawa state government has concluded all the necessary arrangement to export 50,000 metric tonnes of sesame to Japan; this followed the order placed by the Japanese government as part of efforts to source for raw materials that would feed their industries.

Speaking at a flag-off ceremony of the premium sesame seed multiplication programme in Dutse, the State Commissioner for Agriculture Alhaji Kabiru Ali, said the state had since last year commenced the exportation of the commodity to various states in the country.

Alhaji Kabiru Ali explained that the state government has purchased 5,000 metric tones of fertilizer from farmers, which was processed and packaged them for exportation to China, adding that the new sesame variety, white multiplication given for planting to Jigawa farmers is the best variety needed in the world market.

The commissioner said Jigawa was chosen by the Raw Material Research and Development Council for its agricultural initiative, as such the new variety which will be produced at pilot scheme is highly needed in the world market.
Alhaji Kabiru Ali maintained that the council is ready to purchase all access white sesame from farmers in the state, saying however any attempt by any farmer to adulterate the new variety will disallowed the council to purchase such commodity.

According to him the state has done a lot till the production of sesame due to the encouragement given by government and the atmosphere which is conducive for sesame production.
Speaking the state commissioner for local governments, Alhaji Abba Umar Kukuma , said the state government nearly 2000 km road projects to pave way for large scale farming in the state.
