Ekiti State Government has said it is neither targeting the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti,Oba Rufus Adejugbe, for removal, nor laying security seige to the town.

Addressing newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Gboyega Oguntuase, said what Governor Ayo Fayose said on Tuesday concerning the riot act read to monarchs and public office holders was not directed at any particular person or group.

On the heavy presence of policemen in the town on Tuesday while a solidarity rally was held for the governor by some groups, Oguntuase noted that the presence of policemen was at the discretion of police authorities and was probably informed by the need not to allow hoodlums hijack the rally.

Oguntuase said, 'The police have the right to provide security and to maintain peace and order and that is what they did. As for the statement by His Excellency, it is a call to order and wasn't aimed at anybody.

'It is the truth that people should comply with the rule, we don't need to be lawless. When somebody speaks metaphorically, it is not aimed at any particular person."

The commissioner, however, urged monarchs and public office holders in the state not to make themselves removable from office.

He said, 'We don't pray that any monarch makes himself removable, there is no problem between the state government and the Ewi."

Fayose had told the gathering that monarchs and public office holders in the state must comply with the policies of the administration or face removal from office.

He cited the removal of some public officers in the recent past that did not lead to any breakdown of law and order as some people envisaged.

On the insinuation that the crowd that came to show solidarity with the governor was an artificial one, Oguntuase said the people came to express their support for the governor.
