Caleb Gidado, secretary of the Nigeria Amateur Boxing Association (NABA) has disclosed that outstanding boxers at the second Binatone Electronic ‘Top 4' Under-19 championships would be groomed for next year's All Africa Games in Algeria and the 2008 Olympics in China.
Gidado told Tidesports' source that the two-day competition, which ended on Saturday at the National Stadium in Lagos, was organised to scout for talents who would replace the old boxers.
'The competition is to select a team for the World Under-19 championships in Morocco in September this year," Gidado said.
'Since the boxers are young and with age on their side, the association will also keep them together for the 2007 All Africa Games in Algiers," he added.
He said that NABA might even extend the tenure of the discovered talents for 2008 Beijing Olympics Games.
According to him, the association would ensure the boxers fell within the bracket as it intended to keep them for some years.
Gidado commended the sponsor, Chief Alex Akinyele, chairman and chief executive of Binatone Electronic for his support, and urged him to improve on the package next year.
