There has been a call for the dissolution of Bayelsa State PDP executive committee by a coalition of youth organizations and stakeholders from the state.
Mr Emeka Chuta, who led the groups to the PDP national headquarters at Abuja, said that they were in Abuja to protest the 'unfair manner in which the executive of the state PDP was constituted".
'If Gov. Jonathan Goodluck has not been a maq of peace and a true believer in due process, the prevailing peace and harmony which the party enjoys Bayelsa, would not have been," he said.
He said that some party leaders in the state had put their own ‘narrow and parochial interests first, taking the gentle manner of the governor for granted".
Chuta alleged that Chief Fred Agbedi, state party chairman, Mrs Helen Inafa, women leader and Mr Bleson Akpoluma, a national party officer, had endorsed a candidate for the state gubernatorial election in 2007 at a recent political rally.
He said that such a move indicated that there would be no level playing ground for all the aspirants in Bayelsa state PDP gubernatorial primaries.
‘We believe that a referee cannot announce the result of a football match before the players get to the field. Otherwise, it will be a clear case of match-fixing," he said.
He, therefore, called for the immediate dissolution of the state PDP executive committee,
while a new one was properly constituted.
Chuta also urged the PDP National Working Committee to take immediate disciplinary action against those officers found wanting.
The PDP national chairman, Chief Ahmadu Ali, had earlier sent a message that he was having a meeting with President Olusegun Obasanjo, asking them to come back next week reports that the protesters carried placards with such inscriptions as ' Ali, sanitize Bayelsa state PDP Executive", 'Dissolve Bayelsa PDP Exco". and 'Bayelsa PDP Exco has failed".
