IBADAN - OYO State House of Assembly has ordered the immediate removal of two council chairmen over allegations of financial impropriety and for non-compliance with the directives of the state legislative arm.
At the sitting of the house yesterday, a motion to remove the duo: Nureni Adisa from Ido Local Government and Bashir Lawal from Saki West was moved by Ademola Olateju representing Ogbomoso South constituency and seconded by Mohammed Inakoju from Ibadan South East.
The affected chairmen alongside the chairmen of Lagelu and Atisbo had been suspended, penultimate week, by the Assembly.
The decision to sack the chairmen followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy matters on petitions received on the activities of the council bosses.
At the resumed sitting of the House, Ademola Olateju representing Ogbomoso South constituency moved the motion for the adoption of the recommendation of the committee report and was seconded by Mohammed Inakoju from Ibadan South East.
The committee which was set up to investigate the two chairmen reported that 'based on their assessment tour of the councils and careful study of the petitions leveled at them, the council chairmen are found guilty of the charges of financial impropriety and refusal to comply with the directives of the House."
While presenting the report, the Acting Chairman of the Committee, Adekunle Fajimi said "the committee hereby recommends for approval by the whole House that the duo of Hon Nureni Adisa and Bashir Lawal be removed from office pursuant to section 128 of the 1999 constitution and sections 20 and 21 of the Oyo State Local Government Law 2001 in view of the anomalies associated with their administration since their assumption of office."
The committee in its report disclosed that most projects claimed to have been executed by the council chairmen were 'poorly done, inflated, non-functional and in some cases, non existent."
In response, Moruf Atilola, House Speaker, ordered the vice chairmen of the affected councils to assume duties as the chairmen.
