Asaba - THE Adhoc Committee set up by the Delta State House of Assembly to investigate why some of House resolutions were flagrantly disobeyed and not complied with, has called on the House should stop pressing for the reinstatement of a female lecturer sacked by the Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka until pending court action institution by the school authority challenging the reinstatement order was discharged.
Delta State House of Assembly and DELSU authorities have been drawn in show of supremacy over whether a female lecturer, Dr. Christie Olokor sacked sometime in 2003 over alleged act of extortion should be reinstated or not.
The House had earlier, passed a resolution ordering the university authority to reinstate the lecturer following a petition from her, but which the university jettisoned.
Submitting a 6-point recommendation as a result of its findings, the House Adhoc Committee headed by Mr. Akpodiogaga Emeyese stated that 'the House should suspend discussion on Dr. Christie Olokor's matter pending the determination of the court case".
Leadership, DELSU branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has asked the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor John Enaohwo to shun an ultimatum from the state House of Assembly directing the university authorities to reinstate a sacked female lecturer, describing the Assembly's order as 'legislative rascality, a flagrant usurpation of judicial functions".
In a 6-page strongly worded letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, which was signed by the branch ASUU Chairman, Dr. Patrick Muoboghare and Secretary, Dr. Paul Okumagba, they made it categorically clear that the House has no powers to interfere with the removal of an academic staff, stating that 'the power to remove and discipline academic staff by virtue of Section 44 of the University Edict is vested in the Governing Council and the Council alone".
