The family of an ACD chieftain in Anambra State, Chief Tim Egboka, who was detained by the police, has solicited President Olusegun Obasanjo's help in facilitating his release.

The politician's wife, Patience, told our correspondent recently, in Awka that life had been traumatic for her family since her husband's detention.

'I am begging President Obasanjo to help secure the immediate release of my husband. I know he can do it because he is a father.

'It's been horrible coping with the kids and I am sure my husband never got involved in any questionable act," she moaned.

She lamented that people in her neighbourhood always condoled with her ‘'as if my

husband is dead".

Patience said some people had even tried to extort money from her under guise of assisting by pleading with Obasanjo to facilitate her husband's release.

Egboka, former political adviser to the former governor of Anambra, Dr Chris Ngige, was arrested by the police about two months ago.

He was later arraigned for allegedly sponsoring the activities of Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) in Anambra State.

Meanwhile, Egboka's defence counsel, Mr Amobi Nzelu has said that his client, who was granted bail last week by an Abuja High Court, had yet to be released.

He recalled that the court ordered the Inspector General of Police, Mr Sunday Ehindero, who was also joined in the suit, to comply with the bail order.

He said Egboka had gone to court to enforce his fundamental human rights, challenging the legality of his arrest and continued detention by the police.

He stressed that Egboka's continued detention was unconstitutional, saying the police had since been served a copy of the court order.
