The police in Asaba have arrested 10 persons over the resurgence of violent clashes between rival secret cult groups in the town.

Police Commissioner, Udom Ekpoudom made the announcement in Asaba, Thursday, while parading the suspects.

He said those killed were all cultists engaged in land speculation.

Residents of some parts of the town have continued to live in fear as a result of the violence that broke out last weekend during which four persons were killed.

The police said in Asaba on Thursday that they were in control but admitted having difficulty fighting the cultists because the residents were not volunteering information.

Our correspondent reports that the corpse of an unidentified man killed on Wednesday was still lying at the police headquarters on Thursday.

Also last Thursday, the police paraded 18 suspected members of the banned ‘Bakassi Boys" organisation arrested in Ughelli, with Ekpoudom saying the police command was poised to fight violence in the state.
