Two-time governor of defunct Mid-West region and Bendel State, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia, Saturday, at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally in Benin City openly acknowledged mistakes in the choice of governor of the state, and apologized to the people of the state over their disappointments.

Ogbemudia, a national leader of the ruling PDP said the Edo State chapter of the party made a great mistake in the past, a mistake, he said the party deeply regrets.

He was speaking at a rally the state chapter of the party organized at Urhokpola ground, Kings Square, Benin City. 'There will be no mistakes again. We apologise for the mistakes of the past," Ogbemudia said.

The member, Board of Trustees of PDP said the party leadership will not mislead the people this time around. This he said is because the past mistakes had caused the people longer sufferings for close to eight years now.

He assured that the party leadership will ensure that political office aspirants at all levels in the state were well screened to ensure a better deal for the people in future.

Ogbemudia told the crowd of party faithfuls that aggrieved members of the party who were not present at the rally would be talked to later while those still interested in joining the party will be given conditions.

Political analysts in Edo State see Ogbemudia's speech as an expression of the disappointments of South-South Elders over the recent speech credited to the Edo State Governor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, that South-South should forget the quest for the presidency as it has no credible candidate.

They also see it as a disapproval of the performance record of Igbinedion as governor of Edo State in the past seven years.

Present at Saturday's rally were national and state leaders of PDP including, the chairman, Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, two former Vice-Presidents of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, and Vice-Admiral Mike Akhigbe, Chairman DAAR Communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Alhaji Inu Umoru, National Women Leader, PDP Hon Alberta Okonofua-Ayu, State Chairman of the party, Chief Solomon Aguele, among others.
