In the count down to the 2007 elections in the country, the number of interest groups urging Governor Peter Odili of Rivers State to vie for the coveted seat of President is increasing by the day.
The latest to declare their support for Dr Odili are members of the Port Harcourt branch of Abia Development Movement comprising indigenes from various communities of Abia State in the South-East geo-political zone of Nigeria.
Speaking during a solidarity visit to Government House, Port Harcourt, Mrs Uloma Umezurike Akasa and Mr Sam Echem who led the delegation, said Dr Odili's achievements in governance are so numerous that it has become expedient for Nigerians to give Governor Odili the chance to serve the country at the Federal level.
According to them, the only proper thing to do is for the governor to be given a chance to rule the country, so that what he did in Rivers State could be replicated for the generality of Nigerians.
Rivers State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr Marshal Stanley-Uwom, who received the group at Government House, Port Harcourt, promised to convey their message to the governor, whom he said, would declare his intentions at the appropriate time.
Mr Uwom pointed out that although the South needed the position of President and was demanding it this time around, it is only a credible, decentralized, focused person like Dr Odili who had the interest of the people at heart that the people would want.
The visit by the Abia State residents in Port Harcourt was not without pomp and pageantry as they also brought the famous Ohafia traditional dancers to demonstrate various impressive dance steps.
