Barely three weeks after new Minister of Tourism and Culture, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode refused to be screened along with other passengers before boarding an Aerocontractor airline aircraft in Lagos, on his way to Abuja, he has made a repeat performance in Lagos yet again. This time it was a Virgin Nigeria flight that was involved.
The Minister on getting to the security point where all intending passengers subject themselves to screening bluntly refused to be screened. Sources told NewAge that the Virgin Nigeria flight which was scheduled to operate Lagos-Abuja route at 7am was delayed for 45 minutes as a result of the minister's refusal to be screened.
As a result of the attitude of the Minister, the pilot of the aircraft initially refused to fly but later reluctantly took off behind schedule. Commenting on the issue, the Minister of Aviation, Prof. Babalola Borishade, said he was not aware of the identity of the passenger who refused security screening but reiterated that nobody was above the law. Said he: "Nobody is above the law. All Nigerians are supposed to present themselves for screening."
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) he said should punish any airline that flies any passenger that refused to be screened. Borishade added that as result of the incident, he had directed the NCAA to write a report on the matter.
