As the nation prepares for the National Political Reform Conference put in place by President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Southern Kaduna Youths Vanguard (SOKAYOV) has opposed the nomination of Alhaji Abdulkadir Jibrin as one of the delegates representing the state at the conference.
The state governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi had nominated Alhaji Jibrin, who is believed to be the younger brother of the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Maigwari II among the six delegates to represent the state in the forth coming National Political Reform Conference.
The president of the Vanguard, Mordecai Ibrahim said at the weekend that the Vanguard has cause to oppose the nomination because Alhaji Jibrin to undermine peace.
In a press statement made available to jounalists in Kaduna, Ibrahim said that while they appreciate the fact that the governor has the right to nomiate those he feel can best represent the state, the governor should put the interest of the entire state and peace in mind while making his nomination.
"We therefore in very strong terms, condemn the nomination of Alhaji Abdulkadir Jibrin while calling for his immediate removal and replacement by another person.
"We also call on the Federal Government to reject his nomination. He is not our representative and is not fit to represent us in matters such as this".
Mordecai Ibrahim argued that the government has not demostrated fair representation, equity and justice in the nomination.
According to him, "the state government has failed to carry every segment of the peoiple along in deciding how to solve the problems facing our state in particular and the nation in general and we are quick to point out that the nominaton is not a true reflection of the state.
"The Vanguard has no opposition to the nomination made for Zone one in the persons of Dr. Umaru Dikko and Ja'afaru Makarfi as well as the nomiation for zone two in persons of Dr. Chris Abashiya and Barrister Emmanuel Toro (SAN).
"But the nomination for Zone three is completely unacceptable because of the deliberate attempt to exclude majoruty of the people of the zone from the nomination. What is the criteria for nominating people from Birnin Gwari and its neigbour, Giwa local government councils to the exclusion of places like Chikun, Kajur and Kaduna South Local government councils with greater population?
"For fair representation, we in SOKAYOV believe that the governor should revisit this particular nomination and ensure that these people are adequately represented at the conference".
