Barely 24 hours after the outrider of his convoy died, another tragedy has hit Benue State Governor, George Akume, as a 40-year-old woman slumped and died at a thanksgiving organised in his honour.
The woman, Christy Awua, died at the NKST Church in Jos, venue of the thanksgiving organised to mark the award of a dotorate to Governor George Akume by the University of Jos.
The incident happened on Sunday when the governor stormed the church with hundreds of his supporters to celebrate the award of Doctor of Letters given to him a day before.
Daily Sun learnt that Awua, said to be the owner of a popular eatery in Makurdi, Benue Kitchen, was dancing in support of the governor after he had donated N2million to the church when she slumped.
Eyewitnesses said Awua, said to be a close relation of the governor's wife, was immediately rushed to the Air Force Military Hospital, Jos, where she was pronounced dead.
Daily Sun learnt that when the news of the death of the lady got to the governor who was then at the home of a prominent Tiv son, Mr Tilley Gyado, the first lady, Mrs Akume was said to have wept openly and their visit was cut short.
The governor rushed to the hospital where he paid for the embalment before he left immediately for Makurdi.
Awua's death brings to two, the number of persons who lost their lives within the period of the doctorate award.
First was the governor's outrider, a police sergeant who died after a crash.
