Police in Anambra State may soon arraign Chuka, the son of the slain former Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, Mrs. Uzor Obi-Okoli, for allegedly killing his mother.

Chuka, the principal suspect in the crime, admitted during police interrogation on Thursday that he murdered his mother.

Our correspondent gathered on Sunday that detectives at the State Criminal Investigations Department, who had been investigating the murder, had 'cracked the case" with Chuka's confession.

On Thursday, the suspect refused to disclose to the police the motive for his action but he was said to have later admitted 'having some problems" with the deceased. Investigations also revealed that a double-barrelled gun, believed to have been used in the killing, had been recovered.

The suspect was alleged to have maintained his confession on Saturday that he committed the crime alone.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, SCID, Alhaji Muhammed Katsina, confirmed that investigations had almost been completed.

He said, 'The matter is on course and from what we have gathered so far, the next natural step is that he will be arraigned in court for murder.

'Fortunately, we have recovered the gun the suspect used in committing the act."

Katsina, however, did not say whether the gun was recovered in Awka, where the killing took place, or in Lagos, where Chuka was arrested.

The husband of the deceased, Obi-Okoli, has however, remained silent since the killing but the police said he had been 'too shattered and heart-broken" to say anything.
