Members of a cult group at the University of Ibadan have been caught with seven stolen goats and firearms. The suspects who were paraded at the police headquarters by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jonathan Johnson were Olabayo Olaniyi, Akinrototu Ebenezer, Envogbosan Marvin, Timothy Saheed and one Nurudeen.
The cultists, who identified themselves as members of the Eiye confraternity allegedly sealed the goats' mouths with cellotape. And when they were nabbed, the police recovered from them live cartridges, locally made single-barrel gun and a locally made pistol.
The police are pressing charges of car snatching, stealing and illegal possession of firearms against the suspects.
Two of the suspects, who were believed to be students of the University of Ibadan, were found to have robbed a woman of a Samsung phone and N5000.
But the suspects named Olaniyi said the gang did not snatch any car, but admitted that its members had robbed people in Ondo and Oyo states.
Ebenezer said that it was the security guards at University of Ibadan that actually nabbed members of his gang and handed them over to the police.
He said: ' It is true. We are members of the Eiye confraternity. We always operate outside the school premises."
