The people of Abua Kingdom in Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State are celebrating following a recent Supreme Court validation of the kingship of King Kaleh Obuge after about 26 years of rulership wranglings during which the kingdom lacked leadership.

This is sequel to the Supreme Court judgment delivered in Abuja on the 9th of June, 2006 by the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Salihu Madibbo Alfa Belgore and four other justices of the Supreme Court which upheld the rulership of King Kaleh Obuge, the traditional head of Oda Abuan.

According to the verdict, Oda Abuan by history was the highest chieftaincy title in the land and that the Agba family in Otari remains the only legitimate chieftaincy title holder in the area.

The Supreme Court further restrained the defendants from either parading as the king of the community or performing both functions of the Oda Abuan or that of the traditional prime minister.

Reacting to the development shortly after the Supreme Court ruling, the Oda Abuan, King Kaleh Obuge said the people of Abua now know whom their true and legitimate leader is.

King Obuge, however, thanked God for touching the minds of the learned judges to deliver unbiased and equitable justice describing them as the best mediators in conflict resolution and management.
