ANAMBRA State Police Command yesterday confirmed that three of its men have been kidnapped by miscreants who have held the commercial city of Onitsha hostage for more than one month.

Among the three, is an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and one who has been rescued but with serious injuries.

The other is a retired officer of State Security Service (SSS) bringing the number of those kidnapped by the miscreants so far to 10.

Acting Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Haruna John, said seven youths, who were also kidnapped last week, were yet to be found.

John told newsmen yesterday that the miscreants had resorted to guerrilla warfare, laying of booby traps and kidnapping innocent citizens and policemen.

He said, "Two days ago, a retired SSS officer was kidnapped at about 3:00 a.m. Our men that went on rescue mission as about 4 o'clock were ambushed. The three of them were shot by an ambush and they are criticaly ill at the hospital. These have been our problem and they have resorted to guerilla warfare. They know the terrain but we are not relenting. We combed the whole of Akpaka forest yesterday with our bomb disposal expert, having realised

"They have also resolved to carry out ambush at night against our patrol team and we will not relent in our effort at bring sanity, law and order into Onitsha.

The State Command boss however assured that security agents would have leave no stone unturned in their quest to flush out miscreants from their various hideouts in Fegge, Owerri road, Okpoko, Nkpor and adjourning towns of Ekwulobia and other cities, where the joint police, military team were doing mopping up exercise.
