ANAMBRA State Police Command yesterday confirmed that three of its men have been kidnapped by miscreants who have held the commercial city of Onitsha hostage for more than one month.

Among the three, is an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and one who has been rescued but with serious injuries.

The other is a retired officer of State Security Service (SSS) bringing the number of those kidnapped by the miscreants so far to 10.

Acting Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Haruna John, said seven youths, who were also kidnapped last week, were yet to be found.

John told newsmen yesterday that the miscreants had resorted to guerrilla warfare, laying of booby traps and kidnapping innocent citizens and policemen.

He said, "Two days ago, a retired SSS officer was kidnapped at about 3:00 a.m. Our men that went on rescue mission as about 4 o’clock were ambushed. We combed the whole of Akpaka forest yesterday with our bomb disposal expert, having realized that they have resulted in booby traps as used in jungle warfare as well as improvised bomb, similar to what was used during the civil war."

"They have also resolved to carry out ambush at night against our patrol team and we will not relent in our effort at bring sanity, law and order into Onitsha.

The State Command boss however assured that security agents would have leave no stone unturned in their quest to flush out miscreants from their various hideouts in Fegge, Owerri road, Okpoko, Nkpor and adjourning towns of Ekwulobia and other cities, where the joint police, military team were doing mopping up exercise.

This is a great piece of history, which is dear to our hearts as people and very much appreciated.

Many thanks to the people who worked hard in the past and those who are still making efforts to keep the institution.

The labour is obviouly worth it. We are proud of you all.

A lot still to be done, with the motivation of the champions of this course, others will follow as well to maintain the institution

May God continue to keep the edifice for development of future generations to the glory of God and the benefits of our fatherland.
