About 20 of the 27 Council Chairmen in Imo State surprisingly shunned last month's Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting held at the All Season's Hotel, a few days ago, contrary to the usual fashion of attending the meeting en mass like when vultures are gathered over a carrion.
The Telegraph learnt that the only chairmen present at the meeting were those of Mbaitoli, Chief Osita Opara; Owerri West, Chief Victor Muruako; Isiala Mbano, High Chief Simeon Iwunze and Onuimo, Dr. Mrs. Rita Ibemere.
Others were those of Ideato North and Ideato South, Mrs. Eudora Igwe and Mrs. Maria Mbanuzue respectively and that of Owerri North, Chief Charles Oparaochaekwe who incidentally is the Vice Chairman of Imo State ALGON. The State Chairman of ALGON, Chief Chukwudi Eze Mayor was said to be out of the country as at the time of the meeting and was not even part of the entourage that had an unexpected date with EFCC a few days ago.
The EFCC date or arrest no doubt, led to the poor attendance of the meeting by the chairmen most of whom felt that they were made an object of ridicule as a result of the arrest.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed Special Adviser to the Imo State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogbuagu Bons Nwabiani has thanked Governor Achike Udenwa for giving him another opportunity to serve.
Nwabiani who is the immediate past Special Adviser Bureau for project monitoring, observed that both his former job and the present one were strategic, and stated that it was his duty to pursue aggressively the demands expected of him to ensure peace in local government areas and make sure that the chairmen conformed as required by the law.
While appreciating the co-operation given to him by JAAC members, he promised to do his best to live up to his billing.
