Ethnic group donates 30 buses for Odili's presidential campaign


The people of Etche Ethnic Nationality comprising people from Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas of Rivers State have donated 30 buses.....

The people of Etche Ethnic Nationality comprising people from Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas of Rivers State have donated 30 buses to support Governor Peter Odili should he decides to contest the 2007 Presidential election.

Speaking during a solidarity visit to Government House, Port Harcourt, the President-General of Ogbokor Etche, Dr. Shedrack Nweke who read the people's address, said Etche people are waiting for Dr. Odili to declare his intention as the people were ready to rally support for his bid.

"Etche ethnic nationality have no doubt in your abilities," he said, noting that "what Nigeria needs today is a leader who understands the politics of national greatness and how to cater for the interest of he masses." Dr. Nweke noted that the Governor's performance, which has been acknowledged locally and internationally, bears eloquent testimony of his towering profile, stressing that as the Golden Governor of Nigeria, if he becomes the President of Nigeria, the country will develop in leaps and bounds.
Similarly, the people of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area has described Governor Peter Odili as the most qualified person to implement the reform programmes of President Olusegun Obasanjo at the end of the present administration and called on him to accept the offer to contest.

The Amanyanabo of Opobo, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja who spoke on behalf of the people said Governor Odili's profile is a strong indication that he would perform creditably should he be offered the opportunity to lead Nigeria and urged fellow citizens to concede the Presidency to the South-South since the zone was yet to produce a President, in the over 40 years history of the country's nationhood.

The Amanyanabo, whose address was read by Chief Godwin Omoni Nengia, noted that Governor Odili's achievements in the State speaks for him and commended him for considering the realignment on the Ogoni-Opobo Unity Road while seeking the state Government's support for the tourism programmes of the kingdom.

Responding separately to the addresses presented by the people of Etche and Opobo/Nkoro ethnic nationalities, the State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili thanked them for their support to the programmes of State Government since its inception in 1999.

Dr. Odili commended them for living peacefully and charged them to sustain it as that was the only way to attract development to their areas, assuring that the remaining nine months of his administration would be packed with extra-ordinary actions to ensure that the state government does not leave uncompleted projects before the tenure expires.

He urged them to work co-operatively with each other as peace was the best legacy community leaders could bequeath to prosperity, adding that God places people in positions of authority and any effort not sanctioned by God would be fruitless.
