The Etche American Foundation in conjunction with Oganihi Etche, a UK based body have donated some medical consumables as part of their contribution to the upliftment of medicare.

The consumables are primarily for health centres operating within Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the State Government, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Solomon Enyindah expressed happiness that sons and daughters of the Etche kingdom have demonstrated their commitment towards the development of their fatherland by making what he described as a wonderful donation of hospital consumables to health centres within the ethnic nationality.

Dr Enyindah recalled that he had the privilege of being present at an occasion where Etche people that are sick and afflicted received free medical treatment through a programme sponsored by an illustrious daughter of Etche and an American based medical practitioner, Dr Okechukwu Nwodim.

The commissioner disclosed that Governor Peter Odili himself a medical doctor has made health care delivery as one3 of the3 cardinal points of his administration because a "healthy nation is wealthy nation."
Enyindah directed that the items should be evenly distributed to the health institutions identified by the donors.
Earlier, the President of Etche American Foundation, Mr. Akahmbari Nwordu had disclosed that the consumables were acquired by the foundation, which he leads and Oganihi Etche based in the United Kingdom.

He explained that the two groups were non-profit organizations made up of Etche sons and daughters that are living in the diaspora.

He also disclosed that Etche sons and daughters resident abroad decided to embark on the project because of the importance that they attach to health delivery.

Nwordu who said his associates were genuinely impressed by the developmental strides of Governor Peter Odili especially in the health sector remarked that certain deaths could be easily prevented if proper control mechanisms are put in place at the right time to check such loss of life.
He used the occasion to reiterate the opposition of Etche sons and daughters living abroad to the establishment of a toxic waste dump at Umuakuru Etche by the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC.

Also speaking, the President General of Ogbakor Etche, Dr S.N. Nweke thanked the president of Etche American Foundation for the donation, saying their gesture has distinguished members of the body as worthy sons and daughters of Etcheland.

He thanked the Commissioner for Health whom he described as humble and hard working for being part of the event.
The Vice Chairman of Omuma Local Government Council, Hon. Boniface Obichebe who stood in for his chairman expressed gratitude to the body for joining in the efforts to improve medicare.

Obichebe added that their action would go a long way in complementing the efforts of the State Governor as well as the local government councils in promoting health care delivery.
