Former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief D.S.P Alamieyeseigha's declining health has worsened, raising concerns for his life, family sources have revealed.
Alamieyeseigha has been standing trial since late last year over allegation of money laundering.
News of his worsening health is coming just as the London Metropolitan Police Thursday handed over about £1 million seized from the former governor to the Federal Government.
The Met Police in a statement said: 'The six-month Met money laundering operation seized the £988,273.52 cash, made of a variety of currency including Euros, Sterling and Dollars under the cash seizure powers of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002."
The former Bayelsa State helmsman was arrested in London in September 2005 while returning from a tummy tuck operation in Germany and charged to court for money laundering.
But he jumped bail and returned to Nigeria before he was re-arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
A family source informed Sunday Sun that Alamieyeseigha's health has gone so bad that even the life support devices placed in him, are now of little help.
' The three tubes placed in him have failed to control his (Alams) declining health," said the source.
Only on Thursday, the ex-governor asked a Federal High Court in Lagos to put him on bail to enable him seek medical treatment.
Alamieyeseigha, whose trial has suffered delays owing to his ill health, had undergone surgery in February.
