Yes, I killed my mum - Murdered ex-commissioner's son

The second son of slain former Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and founder Tender Love Orphanage, Chief (Mrs). Uzor Obi-Okoli, has admitted committing the crime.

The second son of slain former Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and founder Tender Love Orphanage, Chief (Mrs). Uzor Obi-Okoli, has admitted committing the crime.

The 27-year old Chuka Okoli reportedly said he shot and killed his mother because she kept reminding him of his past.

Chuka was brought to Awka on Wednesday night from Lagos, where he was arrested after fleeing the scene of crime on Sunday.
Disclosing the suspect's confession on Thursday, while fielding questions from newsmen in Awka on the matter, the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Haruna John, said the police were still investigating the matter and that the motive behind the action was not yet known.

He said: "One Chuka Okoli, the second son of the deceased ex-commissioner was arrested in Lagos two days ago and brought down last night here. He has been interrogated and he actually made confessional statement, giving details of what he did that day and up to the time he came and shot and killed his mother.

"As for what might have transpired between him and his mother or other family members before that unfortunate episode we cannot say for certain."

Daily Sun however, gathered that Chuka said he killed his mother because she kept reminding him of his past records."

Police sources also told Daily Sun that Chuka abandoned his mother's Mercedez Benz 500SEL at a mechanic workshop at Auchi Street, Benin, Edo State before moving to Lagos. He was also said to have told the police where he dumped the weapon he used for dastardly act.
On whether the boy executed the operation with some other people, the police boss said that though investigation was still on, the suspect did not say so.

"There was no indication that the boy worked in concert with anybody in the killing of the mother. We have sent men to retrieve the vehicle and firearms used in executing that dastardly act, and if that is done, we will now look into how he came in contact with the gun, we will revisit his alibi."

Daily Sun gathered that the late mother, in her last statement before she died, cried: "Mama, (referring to the mother-in-law), Chuka has killed me."
