Niger state government has donated N68.3 million to Bayero University, Kano (BUK) to assist it in the expansion of its faculty of technology.
Announcing the donation during a courtesy visit by the management of the university at the weekend, Governor Abdulkadir Kure said part of the money could also be utilised in invigorating the university's irrigation activities.
'Irrigation is of paramount importance to the people of Kano and Niger, hence the need for collaborative efforts to enhance it through research and knowledge application," he said.
Kure said he had directed that the money be paid in four consecutive instalments, pledging that the payment would be completed during the life span of his administration.
He congratulated Prof. Attahiru Jega on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of the university, which he described as well merited.
Earlier, Jega said the university had approved the naming of the Faculty of Technology after Kure who is an engineer, ‘'as a mark of appreciation for his contributions in the field of engineering in the country".
He also commended the governor for his 'giant strides" in the development of infrastructure in Niger state in the last seven years.
