Chief Oyuki Obaseki, Chairman of Nigeria Football League Board, NFL, has revealed that the league board has so far incurred a total debt of N66.9m. Chief Obaseki, former chairman of Insurance Football Club, Benin, added that the debt was incurred in the service of the Premier and Professional League for the 2006 season.

The seventh ranked chief in Oba of Benin's cabinet hinted that so far the NFL have settled N37.572m out of the total debt.

'We have been able to settle our staff salaries and match official indemnities to the tune of N37.572m," Chief Obaseki explained.

He revealed that NFL were able to meet part of their financial obligations from the N36m they have so far received from Globacom being part of their share of the N70m league sponsorship money.

'We are only awaiting the balance of N34m from Globacom. And I would say the N36m we have received so far has come very handy in helping us cut down a bit of our huge debts," he said.
