From Ilorin on Monday came a further assurance from President Olusegun Obasanjo of his intention to vacate office next year after his tenure in office might have elapsed.

Obasanjo at the beginning of a two-day official visit to Kwara State, threw a banter at the commissioning of Dangote Flour Mill in Ilorin, describing himself as already living with the reality of having a successor in the year 2007. "Although I will not teach Mr. Dangote how to design his business, but as for me, I am already thinking of my successor." Although the National Assembly has dropped a bill seeking an extension of tenure for the President, some political leaders and parties have expressed fears of a possible plot by Obasanjo to remain in office through an interim national government.

The President expressed joy at the flour mill project and described the private sector as the kernel of economic growth of any nation.

He disclosed that his government would continue to encourage both indigenous and foreign entrepreneurs to invest in Nigeria, until the nation attained the needed height in the global economy. For him, apart from its bureaucratic nature, the public sector gives room for indolence, wastage and sharp practices, which are minimal at the private sector.
