Less than one month after the former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun was forced to resign, his successor, Sunday Ehindero has embarked on a number of far-reaching reforms apparently to cleanse the system of the perceived rot.
For a start, Ehindero, Sunday Sun learnt, has started what some officers described at the weekend as a spiritual warfare against the "forces of darkness" in the police headquarters where Balogun operated from for a period of three years.
Specifically, sources said that the new IG has enlisted the services of prayer warriors to do battle for him before the commencement of the physical combat.
Referring to the prayer warriors, a source said: "right now, they are fasting, keeping vigil and praying very hard to cleanse the office. Oga is not taking chances because he knows how our system works. Anything could have happened in these past three years or so. I believe he is set to tackle all stinking vestiges."
Since coming to power, Ehindero has continued to operate from the fourth floor of Louis Edet House, Abuja whereas the designated office of the IG is on the seventh floor of the same complex.
Sources close to the new IG said he is not in any hurry to move into Tafa's posh office until "things are put right".
Perhaps, as part of putting things right, Sunday Sun also learnt last week that he has ordered some physical changes to be effected in the IG's office.
As at Friday, the office had been repainted and the interior decoration altered to taste.
Also significant was the replacement of the massive swivel chair that the former IG used while in office. In its stead, a smaller chair has been brought in.
In respect of the change of chair, an officer said: "It is only natural that the new Oga would go for something his size. You know our former IG was has a massive frame…"
Besides, the arrangement of furniture and computers in the office has also been altered. All these are going on while the new IG is on tour of police formations in the country.
An unofficial source said at the weekend that he would most probably
move into the seventh floor office after the tour next week.
