Abuja - Nigeria withdrew on Friday from the delegation of the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) to Togo.
Remi Oyo, spokesperson for Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, said the decision followed Togos refusal to allow the plane conveying the advance team of the sub-regional body to the tiny West African country to land on its soil.
Oyo said that "as a result of the unfriendly action, President Obasanjo has advised the Executive Secretary of Ecowas, Mohammed Chambas, of his decision not to participate in the delegation of leaders scheduled to visit Togo Friday."
Ecowas chairperson, President Mamadou Tandja of Niger Republic, and the presidents of Nigeria, Benin Republic, Ghana and Mali were to meet in Lome Friday with all parties to the crisis in Togo.
