An official in southern Nigeria says two recently kidnapped Philippine oil workers have been freed.

The government spokesman, Emmanuel Okah, in Rivers State said the two workers abducted Tuesday from the troubled Niger Delta region were released Sunday. He did not say if negotiators paid a ransom, which is frequently demanded by kidnappers in the oil-rich region.
