Rivers State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Kenneth Kobani, and members of his family narrowly missed death in an explosion which rocked their residence in Port Harcourt in the wee hours of Thursday.
It was gathered that the blast occurred while the Kobanis were still asleep in the one-storey building, located about 50 metres from Hotel Presidential in the high brow GRA Phase Two, and just about three buildings away from the private residence of Governor Peter Odili in the state capital.
Although the commissioner and his household were not hurt, one of his cars was blown to smithereens.
The explosion is the second to be witnessed in the homes of public officials in Port Harcourt in three weeks, coming after a similar one that blew off a section of the house of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Austin Opara on June 6, this year.
Unofficial but dependable sources hinted that the explosive which wreaked the havoc might have been thrown into the premises from the outside, 'considering the nature of the damage."
Already, bomb experts and detectives from the state police command have swung into action to probe the incident.
