President Olusegun Obasanjo has named Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala foreign minister after many eventful years as finance minister.
Iweala negotiated the partial cancellation and payment of Nigeria's foreign debts. However, the former World Bank executive would remain in charge of the country's economic team while her former deputy Nenadi Usman was promoted to the post of finance minister.
Former Foreign Minister Oluyemi Adeniji was moved to internal affairs. Swearing in the new ministers today in Abuja Obasanjo said "The former finance minister, Ngozi, will remain chairman of the economic team and carry out oversight functions with external financial institutions."
