The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday disclosed that it is investigating the Dr. Peter Odili-led government of Rivers State for alleged financial impropriety even as it stated that only the court could pass judgement of corruption on any public office holder. In a statement signed by the Commission's Head, Media and Publicity, Mr Osita Nwaja, the commission said besides Odili's government, it was also investigating other state and local governments. The commission said even ministries and agencies of the Federal Government were also under its watchful eyes.
However, the commission denied any personal attack on Governor Peter Odili, Executive Governor of Rivers State as it stated that it is a focused, professional law enforcement agency, which as a rule, refrains from talking about individuals and certain aspects of investigation activities.
The commission denied a report on a website captioned "Odili is a crook" credited to its chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, noting regrettably that in this season of frenzied political activity, concerted attempts are being made by unscrupulous persons to unduly use the name of EFCC to gain political ascendancy over their opponents.
