Access Bank begins bureau de change service across country

Aigboje Aig - Imoukhuede, MD/CEO, Access Bank commended the Central Bank for liberalizing the Foreign Exchange Market and assured the general public that they are welcome to enjoy Access Bank's acclaimed service excellence through the bank's new Bureau de Change window.

Access Bank Plc on Monday in Abuja formally flagged off its Bureau De Change Service to the public. The Bank's initiative is in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria's decision to liberalize the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market by allowing Banks and Bureau De Change (BDC) Operators to buy foreign exchange from the CBN for retail sale to the general public.

As one of the first banks to take advantage of the liberalization of the foreign Exchange Market, Access Bank is set to remain a major player in the foreign exchange market even as it contributes to achieving the convergence between the official and parallel market rates. The official launching of its Bureau De Change (BDC) service in Abuja signalled the commencement of the service in all Access Bank branches nationwide and further demonstrates the capacity of the bank to remain at the forefront of the Nigerian banking industry.

Speaking after witnessing the inaugural transaction at the bank's Bureau De Change, the CBN Deputy Governor, Policy, Dr. Obadiah Malafia said that he was pleased to observe the historic commencement of the service by Access Bank. Speaking further, Dr. Mailafia said the CBN was committed to demystifying access to foreign exchange by Nigerians through its deliberate foreign exchange liberalisation policy. He commended Access Bank for its exceptional leadership and transparency; and for also seizing the initiative to be the first to implement the policy with the formal launch of the bureau de change service nationwide.

He also stated the public expect to see the introduction of many more market defining initiatives from Access Bank in the weeks ahead. This he said was in line with the banks resolve to maintain its leadership position in the industry.
