DPR seals off 120 fuel stations

CITING under-delivery of petroleum products and non-compliance with operational guidelines, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has sealed off about 120 fuel stations located in Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi states.

CITING under-delivery of petroleum products and non-compliance with operational guidelines, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has sealed off about 120 fuel stations located in Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi states.

The stations were sealed between January and last weekend by the Enugu field office of DPR.

Also, the department has said the inability of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to supply petroleum products to the Emene depot located in Enugu was responsible for the current high price of petroleum products in the three states in the last two months. It said that NNPC severed supply to the area in the last two months as a result of vandalisation of petroleum pipelines, which has now forced the marketers into sourcing supply from other areas across the country and selling indiscriminately.

Disclosing this in Enugu at the weekend after a tour of petroleum stations at Abakaliki in Ebonyi State, the Operations Controller, Enugu Field Office of the DPR, Chief Christopher A. Okoronkwo said the stations were sealed off based on their inability to adhere to the codes guiding operation of petrol stations as set out by the Federal Government.
