THE University of Lagos (UNILAG) has entered into a partnership arrangement with the Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, Georgia, United States, for the systematic exchange of academic and professional staff and students.
THE University of Lagos (UNILAG) has entered into a partnership arrangement with the Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, Georgia, United States, for the systematic exchange of academic and professional staff and students.
Two representative of the American University - Dr. Akanmu Adebayo and Dr. Rosa Bobi - recently paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oye Ibidapo-Obe, to get familiar with UNILAG's administration and also to introduce a newly created centre at the Kennesaw State University.
The two delegates, Adebayo (of the Institute of Global Initiatives) and Bobi (of the Centre for Africa and African Diaspora Studies at the Kennesaw State University) informed the Vice Chancellor that the authorities at Kennesaw are pleased with the support given and for the signing of the symbiotic agreement between the two institutions. Kennesaw State University is the third largest varsity in the Georgia State University system, being run by the state government.
Ibadapo-Obe in response, said that UNILAG believes in partnerships that will work, and have the backing of the Senates of the two institutions. He explained that it took some time before UNILAG signed the agreement, to allow for check ups on the credentials of the partner. He thanked the authorities at Kennesaw State University for the confidence reposed on the university for the agreement.
At Kennesaw State University, activities will be co-ordinated through the Institute for Global Initiatives, while programmes will be co-ordinated through the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Research) at UNILAG.
Dr. Kehinde Faluyi of the Department of History and Strategic Studies, UNILAG, planted the seed of the partnership, when he went to Kennesaw State University on a faculty exchange programme under the auspices of the Institute of Global Initiatives. That seed got germinated when Prof. Ayodeji Olukoji, Dean, Faculty of Arts, later visited the institution. Already, Dr. Solomon O. Akinboye of the Department of Political Science, UNILAG, is in the American university as part of academic-staff-exchange programme.
