...South East govs demand presidency

Governors of the South East states have demanded that power rotates to the zone in 2007.

Governors of the South East states have demanded that power rotates to the zone in 2007.

In a three-point communiqué issued at the end of a meeting in Enugu and signed by Governor Achike Udenwa (Imo), Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu), Peter Obi (Anambra), Sam Egwu (Ebonyi) the governors said: 'Whereas the North and West have each held power for appreciable length of time, we hereby restate our call for power rotation to the South East come 2007."

They expressed surprise at what they called 'the upsurge in the agitation for power by other zones."
The governors appealed to other zones to support 'this call for equity, fair play and justice," and urged 'all political parties to zone their presidential slots to the South East."

On the crisis in Ohanaeze, Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, the governors expressed delight that 'we have agreed on a common ground for a way forward in the resolution of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo family problem and hope that we will work together with the Ohanaeze to implement this formula."

The governors also demanded creation of additional state in South East, lamenting what they called 'the failure to address the fundamental issue of the creation of one additional state for the South East Zone and the issue of local governments."
