Lagos guber race: Aspirant warns AD against candidate imposition

To avoid a pitfall capable of jeopardising the chances of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Lagos next year, one of the leading aspirants in the gubernatorial race, Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon has warned against imposition of candidates for elections. To avoid a pitfall capable of jeopardising the chances of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Lagos next year, one of the leading aspirants in the gubernatorial race, Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon has warned against imposition of candidates for elections. Instead, he called on the leaders to allow candidates emerge through primaries.

He gave this advise in a chat at the lobby of the National Assembly as he intensified campaign for his ambition.
According to him, AD as a party has the goodwill to win the state in view of the performance of Governor Bola Tinubu, only if the process of picking its successor was transparent.

"It is an open fact that the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has touched the lives of Lagosians, using the manifesto of AD in the face of the hurdles placed before him. This is why the people will vote for his party again, but we have to be careful not to impose an unpopular candidate," he warned.

Fondly called GOS, Solomon said that a repeat of imposition of candidates that led to protest votes in the past should be avoided, adding: "Let there be transparency in choosing the party flagbearer. Let there be a level playing ground for gladiators. Let there be free and fair primaries. Let every one claiming something be tested at the party level, this is my appeal to our leaders and it is very important," he stressed.

Solomon, who is representing Mushin Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, noted that the standards set by the Tinubu administration made it imperative to shop for a tested hand to continue where it would stop next year.

On his chances, the two-time chairman of Mushin Local Government said that he was optimistic that he would emerge top at the primaries because: "My popularity continues to soar since I made public my intention to run. Go to every part of Lagos, you will see my posters, they were put there by people who believe in my ability to turn things around."
