Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Boni Haruna of Adamawa State on Monday had a bad Democracy Day as vehicles in their convoy were involved in a fatal auto crash, killing two persons.
The two Adamawa political bigwigs were said to have cheated death by providence in the accident that involved four vehicles in their entourage, including that of the security, ambulance and commercial vehicles. The accident occurred at about 10:55am between Loko and Jabi Lamba along Song-Yola road.
Atiku and Governor Haruna were said to have left Adamawa State capital by the early hours of the morning for Hong, on a condolence visit.
The accident happened on their way back.
It was gathered that one of the vehicles in the convoy had rammed into a Toyota Starlet car coming from the opposite direction, leaving the occupants of the vehicles seriously injured. Other vehicles crashed into them.
The victims of the accident were said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital where two of them died. Others are said to be on danger list.
Frantic efforts made by Daily Sun to get police confirmation proved abortive as the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Sambo, was said to be busy with the vice president and other senior police officers in the command, while his aides declined comments.
