Senate President Ken Nnamani has insisted that there was no deal between him and anyone, including former military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Banbangida (IBB) over the fate that befell the third term agenda, saying that the process leading to the collapse of the agenda was done in the full glare of the public. He wondered how he could have manipulated the process as suggested in some quarters.
The Senate president made this known on Monday at an interactive session with the Senate press corps.
Nnamani, who was represented by the Senate's spokesman, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, described the allegation that he was promised a running mate ticket to IBB to kill third term, as 'totally false, absolutely uncharitable and baseless."
He said that if he had a deal at all with anyone, it was with Nigerians and his colleagues at the Senate, adding that if he took a side at all, it was on constitutionality and rules of the Senate adding that he has no apologies for that.
'The process was done in the full glare of the public. I do not know at what point you can fault the handling of the process. I do not see where the allegation as to doing IBB's bidding is holding ground. I didn't take side with anyone. If I took side at all, I was on the side of constitutionality and the rules of the Senate, which I owe no one any apology for.
'The allegation is totally false, absolutely uncharitable and baseless. I have no deal with anybody. The only deal I have is with Nigerians, the constitution and my colleagues in the Senate," the Senate president, who said that it was unfair to identify senators with the various positions they took during the debate, added.
