Fire disaster claims life in Bonny


The chairman of Bonny local government council, Warisenibo, Hon. Rodaford O. LongJohn has appealed to residents of Bonny to be more careful, especially at this harmattan period with the use of candle, lantern and electric heaters that could ignite fire.

LongJohn made the appeal during his visit to the scene of the fire incident at Obiacha's compound, Igoni Polo Squre. Bonny. The council boss reiterated his warning to residents to be more careful in the use fire in the area, noting that any property lost in any fire incident cannot be recovered.

The council chairman lamented the manner a 22years old woman was burnt to death in the fire disaster.

Warisenibo Rodaford LongJohn assured the fire victims that their matter would be channeled to the appropriate authority at the state level, while the council would provide them with building materials, food and clothings to cushion the effect of the incident on them.

Telegraph learnt that fire started from one of the rooms in a zink house in Obiacha's compound that one Miss Millicent Amoniah Hart lit a candle and slept off, which later affected a rubber carpet and engulfed the building.
The source also said that the fire razed down five buildings including a storey building and destroyed property worth over N20 million.

The remains of late Miss Milicent Amoniah Hart has since been deposited at the Bonny mortuary.

The affected victims had earlier appealed to government and multinationals companies to come to their aid.
