Odili dangles N5m on killers of American oil worker

GOVERNOR Peter Odili of Rivers State has offered to pay N5 million reward to anybody who can give information that would lead to the arrest of the killers of the American oil executive, Mr. Ricky Wiginton, last Wednesday in Port Harcourt.

GOVERNOR Peter Odili of Rivers State has offered to pay N5 million reward to anybody who can give information that would lead to the arrest of the killers of the American oil executive, Mr. Ricky Wiginton, last Wednesday in Port Harcourt.

This is even as the Rivers State Police Command has launched a manhunt for those who killed four police men last Sunday at an island near Abonema Wharf in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Dr. Odili, who was away to the United States (US) at the time Mr. Wiginton was killed said the murder was wicked and unacceptable to him as the governor.

While condemning the gruesome killing of late Mr. Wiginton, who until last week was the operation manager of Port Harcourt based oil servicing company, Baker Hughes, the Rivers State governor urged the police to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Emma Okah said his boss had sent condolences to the family and employers of the late Mr. Wiginton and US on the sad event.

On the killed cops, the spokesman for the Rivers State Police Command, Mrs. Ireju Juliet Barasua, a Deputy Superintendent of police told our correspondent on telephone that investigation has commenced on the killing.

Barasua who refused further comment on the issue said the actual number of policemen killed is yet to be confirmed.

Earlier when our correspondent called the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Adetuyi he responded that he was in a meeting.

Daily Champion gathered that the state police hierarchy have been meeting since Sunday to devise appropriate strategies to check the rising wave of killings in the state.

Police sources said the command was shocked by the incident, especially as the motive of the attackers or who they are not yet known.
