A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered a group of traders in Balogun market, led by one Tony Akanegbu, to stop parading themselves as the executive of the traders association, Balogun Business Association (BBA), pending the determination of the suits.
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered a group of traders in Balogun market, led by one Tony Akanegbu, to stop parading themselves as the executive of the traders association, Balogun Business Association (BBA), pending the determination of the suits.
In a consolidated ruling on two application filed by the BBA electoral committee, and the incorporated trustees of the association, led by Chief Okechukwu Ezibe and Juice Abimbola Ogie, also restrained Ezibe, Nick Okeke, Ikechukwu Obioha and Okwudiba Anyaoha, among the defendants in the suit brought by the electoral committee chaired by John Nwosu, from handing over the affairs and executive instrument of BBA to Akanegbu group.
Besides, the trial judge, after listening to all the counsel in the matter also barred Akanegbu and his group from calling on Ezibe, Okeke Obioha and Anayaoha to hand over to them offices and assets of the association until the suits are disposed off.
In addition, Akanegbu, Valentine Ayika, Uchenna Okenze, Emmanuel Otunabo, Silvester Okoye, Elias Okeke, Emma Anyaralu, Cosmos Ikenne, Oroegbunam Okechukwu, Nneamaka Ezeninra, Adibe Arinze Ugonabo and Adolphine Okoko are also barred from interfering with the activities of Ezibe- led executive.
Both the Inspector General of Police, Mr Sunday Ehindero and Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Emmanuel Adebayo, were also restrained from interfering with the activities of the plaintiffs in the management and control of the incorporated trustees of BBA or to harass, intimidate, arrest or compel by force Ezibe, Okeke, Obiora and Anyaorah to hand over or interfere in the day to day management of BBA or Executive Council offices, the court held.
Justice Ogie has also directed the Lagos State police boss to provide security in the market and put in place adequate mechanism for maintenance of law and order in the complex pending the determination of the suit.
Peace has eluded the market following the disagreement over the conduct of the election to elect new BBA executives last year.
