Lagos NURTW dissolves branch excos


The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos State branch has dissolved all executive councils of three of her branches in the state with immediate effect.

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos State branch has dissolved all executive councils of three of her branches in the state with immediate effect.

In a statement, the State Secretary-General of the union, Comrade Stepten Falusi, said the branches had to be dissolved following allegations of financial misconduct, unlawful diversion of union funds, acts of hooliganism, and complete disregard to constituted authorities. The letter reads in part:

"After careful deliberations by the state executives on the happenings at the Lagos Island area and the need to instill sanity into the union activities in Lagos Island, you are hereby informed that your branch executives have been dissolved."

The letter dated April 25th, 2006 was addressed and handed over to the three branches of the union on Lagos Island, which consist of Kakawa Heavy Truck and Lagos Island branches.

According to Comrade Falusi, the National President of NURTW the AIG, Zone II Police H.Q Onikan, the State Commissioner of Police, the Commissioner for Transport, Lagos State and other necessary bodies, have been duly informed about the development to forestall any trouble.
The dissolution, Daily Sun gathered, is in line with NURTW's stand and objective to bring sanity into the union's activities nation wide.
