CNPP divided over anti-3rd term rally

There seem to be a crack in the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties [CNPP] as 12 of the political parties in its fold announced they will not participate in today's mass rally organised by the CNPP against the commencement of the 3rd term debate by the National Assembly.

There seem to be a crack in the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties [CNPP] as 12 of the political parties in its fold announced they will not participate in today's mass rally organised by the CNPP against the commencement of the 3rd term debate by the National Assembly.

The twelve political parties are APLP, BNPP, ND, NPC, LDPN, CPP, NAP, NAC, PMP, NNPP, Labor Party and Alliance for Democracy.

Chief Emmanuel Okereke, National Chairman of the All People Liberation Party [APLP] told a news conference in Abuja Tuesday they were not contacted by the leadership of the CNPP nor were they in support of mass action as a way out of the nation's political problems.

Barrister Dan Nwanyanwu, National Chairman of the Labour Party, who also spoke at the press conference deplored the tactics of CNPP's National Chairman, Alhaji Balarabe Musa and accused him of having dictatorial tendencies.

He said there was no time the issue of mass rally was discussed and agreed upon by consensus as a way of addressing the third term plot.
According to the Labour Party leader, the last meeting of the CNPP which was inconclusive and led to the formation of the Political Parties Alliance, could not agree on the modalities of fighting the third term plot.

While insisting that the third term agenda was at best a rumour since the constitution has not been reviewed, Nwanyanwu said what should be paramount is how to stop the constitutional amendment.
According to him the way out is for all leaders of political parties to ensure that their representatives at the National Assembly refuse to vote in support of the amendment.

"The whole thing about this third term started in 2003 when the election was massively rigged and those who won elections were disallowed from occupying positions. The person to hold responsible now is the PDP under Audu Ogbeh. He was the national chairman of the party and today he is singing a new song," Nwanyanwu stated.
