Strip Balogun of national honour -- Lawmakers

ANAMBRA State House of Assembly has called for the withdrawal of the national honour bestowed on the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Tafa Balogun, following his alleged involvement in fraud which culminated in his sudden retirement.

ANAMBRA State House of Assembly has called for the withdrawal of the national honour bestowed on the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Tafa Balogun, following his alleged involvement in fraud which culminated in his sudden retirement.

The House made the call as it urged the acting IGP, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, to revisit its earlier petition on last year's mayhem in the state.

In a motion adopted week-end, the House, while congratulating the new IGP, said this was necessary in view of the sudden resignation of the former police boss Mr. Balogun.

Contributing to the motion, Mr. Ben Nwosu, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) (Nnewi-North 1), accused the former IGP of complicity in the mayhem.

He called on Ehindero to urgently investigate the crisis so that its perpetrators and those behind it could be prosecuted.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the House, which resumed after the Christmas break, has now shifted its sittings to the government house.

Speaking on the issue, the Speaker, Mr. Mike Balonwu, stated that they would continue using the new venue for their activities pending when their complex was reconstructed.
