Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees chairman, Chief Tony Anenih has denied stopping former military President, Gen Ibrahim Babangida from making a public declaration of his presidential ambition.
A statement signed by the press secretary to the PDP chieftain, Tony Ikpasaja said: 'Chief Anenih was never in Minna, Niger State on Tuesday neither did he attempt to stop any declaration bid of General Babangida."
He stated that Chief Anenih could have given his own side of the story if he had been contacted before the report on the visit was published in the Daily Sun edition of Monday.
He added that the report 'smacks of a deliberate ploy to embarrass the chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP and also create political tension in the land."
Daily Sun had on Monday reported that Chief Anenih stormed Minna last Wednesday to caution those behind the planned declaration of IBB for the 2007 presidential race. Spokesman of the PDP chieftain, however, said there was no iota of truth in the report.
