ABUJA - THE Presidency yesterday came hard on Governor Joshua Dariye calling him ‘an outcast,' who President Olusegun Obasanjo would have nothing to do with. Special Assistant to the president on public affairs, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode against the background of insinuations that President Obasanjo was wooing back Dariye to back his (Obasanjo) third term agenda through a top notcher of the People's Democratic Party.
Dariye is still on suspension from the PDP.
But speaking to newsmen in Abuja yesterday Chief Fani-Kayode 'Let me state clearly and categorically that Mr. President, the Presidency or the Federal Government of Nigeria or indeed the PDP which is the party that we all belong to has absolutely nothing to do with Governor Joshua Dariye of Plateau State. As far as we are concerned, he is not only persona non grata, but he is also virtually an outcast.
'This is somebody that has been suspended from the party as a consequence of jumping bail from a foreign country. Dariye is not part of us, he means nothing to us order than an outcast as far as we are concerned.
So the suggestion that Mr. President is begging him or has sent anybody to talk to him on behalf of the president or indeed the party is one that is completely laughable. We do not beg outcast, we do not reach out to outcast", Fani Kayode pointed out.
He said that whoever was talking to Dariye was doing so clearly on his own volition and not on behalf of the president, stressing 'If Dariye is telling anybody that Mr. President has sent someone to beg him, tell him he doesn't know the type of president that he has.
We don't beg people, least of all, people that are outcast, neither do we need people like that to assist us in whatever it is that we want to do. It is most upsetting and most insulting to suggest that Mr. President would do such a thing. Whoever is doing that is doing that for himself and himself alone".
'People do all sorts of things for different reasons. The president has absolutely nothing to do with him and he will have nothing to do with him. Other than the fact that he has to deal with him in official capacity as a sitting governor, he has no other form of relationship with Dariye", Fani-Kayode said.
