A hospital run by quack doctors and nurses for over 25 years has been found by the police in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

A hospital run by quack doctors and nurses for over 25 years has been found by the police in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The Chief medical director of the hospital is a 74-year-old man, who was discharged from the Army in 1984.

The man, who identified himself as Joseph Olatunji, told Daily Sun: 'I'm a nurse. I had practised while serving in the Nigeria Army, in Jos and Kaduna in 1967. After I was discharged in 1984, I decided to open my hospital, Omolola Convalescent Home in 1984."

Even though the police maintained that Olatunji had no certificate or training in Nursing, the man claimed that he got a certificate from the Nursing Council of Nigeria".

Olatunji was arrested alongside other fake doctors and nurses working with him. The Assistant Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Mr. Rufai Sanusi said one of the suspects, Ramoni Abodunrin Busari, a staffer of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria in Ibadan, called himself a doctor and consultant.

Also arrested was a quack Assistant Nurse, named Omowunmi Oyekunmi.
Busari, 47, admitted that he was parading himself as a doctor and consultant. He said: 'I always work at the hospital every weekend to earn a monthly pay of N4,000. I never attended any School of Nursing. I joined the hospital four years ago".

Oyekunmi, 36, said she trained as a nurse under Olatunji in 1993. And she is now an assistant nurse at the hospital.

She said: 'We've been treating all kinds of patients especially accident victims. I never knew that Mr. Olatunji is a fake doctor".

Oyo State police spokesman, Mr. Femi Adedeji, said police investigations had shown that the suspects were operating an illegal hospital, adding that they would be charged to court.
Adedeji warned members of the public to watch out for such illegal outfits that could endanger their lives.
